Short-form video content is everywhere. Everyone from affiliate marketers to influencers and major corporations have been investing in short-form video. As platforms like Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube expand their short-form offerings, brands are taking notice. More than half of marketers (51%) who use short-form video plan to increase their investment in 2022, according to HubSpot’s 2022 Marketing Industry Trends Survey. Another 38% plan to continue investing the same amount. Why is short-form video so valuable? It has the highest ROI of any social media marketing strategy as 30% of social media marketers plan to invest in it more than any other trend in 2022.

More short-form video content on Google

According to Marshak, Google will consider short-form video as anything less than five minutes in length. It must be recorded vertically. “We think this kind of content could be useful for a lot of different types of search queries, and we’ve been experimenting with how to show it to users more often,” Marshak said in the podcast.

How would Google rank short-form video?

Google would rank short-form videos the same as it does other forms of content, by crawling and indexing them. Google is already doing this with Google web stories. In addition, if videos have a URL you can visit in a web browser, not just in-app, Google could index them on search engine results pages. That rules out videos on Instagram and Snapchat, since they need to be viewed in-app.

Will creating short-form video help me rank on Google?

While creating short-form video doesn’t help you rank today, it could soon. Short-form video has the highest ROI of any social media marketing strategy, according to HubSpot’s survey. More marketers are investing in the format. So, while short-form video might not boost your SEO performance, it can help you in other ways like driving more traffic to your site and converting more prospects into customers.
